New Girl on the Block

Posted by Marney Schorr on August 26, 2014 at 10:20 AM

Transitions are overwhelming for us. Moving. Back to school. Weather changing, patches of leaves turning color here and there. September rises quickly. The radio and the news are not so easy to listen to. And maybe Facebook becomes a respite from what's going on in the world.

Can we allow ourselves to be bombarded with good news and positive posts to lift our tired spirits? Yeah, we can let it be okay.

When I get overwhelmed, I stop and make calls. Friends - where are you? Right here they say. We are feeling it too. They multi-task and talk. Or sit down and take a break from it all with me - even from hundreds of miles away.

A dear friend of mine called me back to say, Welcome being overwhelmed. What? I thought at first, are you kidding me? No, he said. Embrace the abundance. So I stopped in my tracks, and put aside the litany of to-do items in my current period of transition.

I listened. I paused. I saw it.

My life is utterly colorful today. The 'too much going on' is exactly what I asked for. Choices. Domestic comforts. Opportunities. Yes, I will celebrate being overwhelmed!

And so my mood and my thoughts somehow - just shifted. I became quiet inside again. I could hear myself. I could see my surroundings. And I must say, being the New Girl on the Block, is pretty cool. I'm fortunate to say, good things are happening.

In the midst of it all, I get to paint. These new ladies are about to meet the world. Me too!

Thanks so much Lori. I am so glad you enjoy these new faces. It is a sisterhood of diverse women in transition...many inspired by the great deeds of women throughout the past. Yes, they have become our friends with their unique ways of seeing the world. Marney

As you know, i love your lady creates the friendship, the support, the companionship, the sisterhood, to keep us from falling flat in this overwhelming world. There is always a collection of "friends" nearby - you create them! These girls are all very special, and each unique. You leave us all wondering, who is THIS colorful character? Its fun to imagine what they are thinking......Bravo my friend!!

Thanks Kelly! The painting with the pink background was inspired by Audrey guessed it. Your comments were so nice to read. Getting great feedback on these new ladies...more to come! Postcards are something I haven't considered. Maybe a few prints would be a good idea.

Amazing paintings! The one in pink reminds of an actress but I'm not sure who. I like how you offset each face with color theme and the color in the eyes, like the woman in blue and gold. The gold is nice on the hair peice like lit up and the gold bronze in the eyes matching the color of the hair. The green colored eyes on the woman with green bluish colors is cool too, the contrast of having the outer part [email protected] the eye a lit up glowy type green. My favorite is the pink background one the way her face looks so real like an actress and the neck shape and hair style is realkly well done, ,especially the skin tone color and how are cheeks look and the hair color is great! Its so unique! And the green color top how it lays like over the shoulder and can look like a sweater. I would like to buy a painting sometime or if i can't right now maybe a postcard if you have any made up to buy? Thanks,Kelly.
